DEVELOPMENT OF IMMIGRATION POLICY AND IMMIGRATION IN AUSTRALIA

The main aim of the thesis is to describe the development of immigration policy and immigration in Australia since the first colonization of the country up to the present. Individual waves since 1778 are analyzed, i.e. from the colonization of British settlers and immigration associated with gold rush to non-British immigration after the World War II. The work describes the shift from discriminatory White Australia policy which was abandoned mainly after Migration Act 1958 to multicultural policy. There were two different approaches to multiculturalism: assimilation of immigrants during the 1950s and their integration in the 1960s. Gaugh Whitlam government finally abolished the White Australia policy in 1973 replacing both previous positions with multicultural policy. Governments of prime ministers and changes of their approaches to multicultural policies since 1970s up to the present are discussed. Current migration and humanitarian program as well as special Department of Immigration and visa system are also part of this work.

Czech immigration to Chile in the first half of the 20th century

Czech immigration to Latin America in the 20th century is relatively well-documented phenomena. Nevertheless it still opens up some areas that invites to detailed research. One of them is the Czech emigration to Chile in the first half of the 20th century. Due to the remoteness of the Chilean Republic immigration developed much later compared to the situation in traditional immigration countries that were mainly Argentina and Brazil. We can say it is the marginal area of the Czech migration although it is possible to find even in this small group of immigrants interesting life stories of Czechs that decided to try their luck in distant South America. This thesis aims to introduce main periods of the Czech immigration to Chile in the first half of the 20th century and to describe the life stories of Czechs who have left a significant legacy in Chilean society. Author also intends to focus on motives of choosing Chile as a final destination, Chilean migration policy in the particular periods and also to development of compatriots' activity in the areas of concentration of Czech citizens. The Immigration Policy of David Cameron between the years 2010 and 2015

The immigration has became the main topic in many western countries during several past years. This thesis focuses on immigration policy of the United Kingdom, where immigration represents 12,5 % of the whole population. Namely it deals with immigration policy during the premiership of David Cameron in the years 2010 to 2015. This topic is relatively recent, therefore has not been sufficiently explored. Moreover, attention is usually focused on integration policy; as a consequence thesis should contribute to mapping of actual immigration policy in the United Kingdom. This thesis examines which specific changes in immigration policy have been introduced by the government of David Cameron. Immigration policy is analyzed on base of the new Immigration Act and other documents which amended new law, then on the reforms of visa policy. The main objective of the analysis is to map immigration policy of David Cameron and reveal the specific steps taken by the government. The thesis also examines whether the development of immigration policy changes are applied to all immigrants from non-EU countries, or only to a certain type of immigrants. It also rates the achievement of stated goals of the Conservative Party.

Immigration Policy of the European Union: Legal Status of Third-Country Residents

This master thesis deals with the issue of development of the EU immigration policy and expansion of the rights of third-country nationals who have been legally residing in the territory of the Union throughout this development. The aim of this thesis is to outline the crucial milestones in the form of primary and secondary legislation that led to the broadening of the scope of rights of third-country nationals in the Union, while examining their legal status in the Union in general and in the Member States in particular. The first part of this master thesis introduces the historical background, outlines the development in context of the European Union and provides the categorisation of legal third-country nationals residing in the territory of the EU, whereas the second part of the thesis deals with transposition of European legislation into national legislation of the selected Member States - Germany and the Czech Republic - while drawing a line of compliance and emphasising local requirements that were introduced in addition to (but not exceeding the scope of limitation provided by) EU legislation. No Way, You Will Not Make Australia Home! Comparative analysis of immigration policies: case of Australia and New Zealand

The aim of this thesis is to discover cause or causes of different approach toward immigrants between Australia and New Zealand. The timeframe is set between 2001 and 2015 and is occasionally exceeded. Theory of scapegoating was applied and the scapegoat mechanism was expected to be launched by changes in economic situation. This theory is based on the assumption that society during times of hardship tends to search for so-called scapegoat. Those are usually groups unable to defend themselves. Blame for variety of actual as well as alleged problems is shifted by society towards them. The purpose of this behaviour is to relieve the accumulated frustration/aggression and simultaneously keep semblance of moral value. The other motivation is desire to increase power at the expanse of the group(s). Immigrants are naturally ideal targets for scapegoating, because of their vulnerability and distinctness from majority population. The conducted research found out that this mechanism is often applied to immigration in Australia and influences the immigration policy of the country. Spanish Government's Response to Immigration and Integration Policies During the Economic Crisis of 2008-2014

This bachelor thesis deals with the impact of the economic crisis on immigration policy in Spain in the years 2008-2015. The research focuses mainly in the reactions of Spanish fovernments in the filed of immigration and integration policy in response to the economic crisis of 2008-2014. The economic crisis marked the biggest downturn for both the global and Spanish economies since the crisis of the 1930's. The aim of the thesis is to prove that the economic crisis meant a change in the orientation of immigration and integration policy in Spain by analyzing the approach of individual Spanish governments in this period. The first two parts of the thesis are devoted to defining the basic concepts related to migration and the historical context of Spanish development in the field of migration. Furthermore, the work describes the development of the economic crisis in the world and in Spain and examines how foreigners located on Spanish territory were affected. The main part of the work is an analysis of the approach of government political parties of the People's Party and Socialists to immigration and integration during the economic crisis with regard to the adoption of measures and legislative changes.
